The very limited G-Shock MR-G B2000 Edition
Posted 8 March 2021 by Miriam Reading time approximately 2 minutesIn 1996, G-Shock head designer Kikuo Ibe's team launched the first MR-G watch. A G-Shock, but different; not made of plastic, but of metal. Based on Japanese metalworking traditions with its own aesthetic. Nevertheless, G-Shock managed to maintain and improve G-Shock's unique properties such as shock resistance and water resistance.
In the more than 25 years since, only just over 100 different MR-G models have been produced, which further enhances the exclusive character of this premium G-Shock watch line.
This spring, only four copies of the latest MR-G Limited Editions will be available at out shops. Meet the MRG-B2000B-1ADR and MRG-B2000R-1ADR "Kachi-iro".
Kachi-iro; Invincible blue
The MRG-B2000B-1A and MRG-B2000R-1A have a blue accent colour inspired by the traditional Japanese "kachi-iro" colour that symbolizes victory. The colour was often used for samurai armor and helmets.
In addition to the blue colour, we find many more references to Japanese traditions: The surface of the dial is finished with an alternating triangular pattern known as uroko, or fish scale, which occurs in ancient Japanese art and utensils. The outer ring of the dial has a ribbed texture, inspired by the folding pattern of Japanese fans. And the hour markers have a slightly concave shape that mimics the curve of a katana (sword).
Both models are made in Japan on the Premium production line of the Yamagato Casio factory.
The case is made of titanium with a deep layer of hardening and a diamond-like carbon (DLC) coating for superior protection against scratches.
MRG-B2000R-1A the power of metal with a soft rubber strap
The MRG-B2000R-1A is worn on a Dura Soft Fluoro rubber strap with a one-touch folding clasp. The strap has a traditional Bishamon Kikko pattern inspired by the shell of the Bishamon tortoise, a symbol of strength in Japan since ancient times.
The titanium case is doubly crystallized. This heat treatment creates a pattern on the surface that resembles the "nie" - visible iron crystals - of Japanese samurai sword blades.
This watch measures 54.7 x 49.8 x 16.9 millimeters and weighs 138 grams.
MRG-B2000B-1A with the lightness of titanium
The MRG-B2000B-1A features a sturdy lightweight titanium strap with safety clasp in a deep black colour that contrasts beautifully with the gold and blue details of the watch.
The MRG-B2000B-1A measures 54.7 x 49.8 x 16.9 millimeters and weighs 150 grams.
G-Shock functions
Both watches featurea sapphire crystal with a non-reflective coating, Tough Solar energy, Neo-Brite illumination, Multi-Band-6 automatic radio-controlled time adjustment and Bluetooth smartphone link. (The watches can be set and operated without using Bluetooth.)
Naturally, these watches are also extremely shock resistant and 200 bar waterproof. The perfect combination of Japanese strength and aesthetics with modern materials, structure and functions.
