Special anniversary editions of classic Orient watches

Posted 29 August 2020 by Miriam

Watch manufacturer Orient has focused on making quality watches that are accessible to everyone since it was founded in 1950. The result is an extensive collection of mechanical watches that have proven to be timeless for 70 years. In this anniversary year, Orient is releasing a new version of two classic models; The King Diver and the Retro Future Camera.

Retro-Future Camera

Release a mechanical watch in this digital era whose design is based on an analog camera? Orient just does it! The original Retro-Future Camera watch was first released in 2005. As it was a very popular model, a first update soon followed in 2010. For the 2020 anniversary edition, the design has been further improved. The dial is still inspired by the blades of a camera lens; the bezel mimics the diaphragm, and the crown and crown protector are reminiscent of the top of a camera case.

What has changed from the original?

The new Retro-Future Camera follows the original design, but it has evolved into a totally new watch. The biggest change is the case. The original Retro-Future Camera had a pillow-shaped case. The new version has a round case, of 40.8 / 12.6 mm, whose edges are more sharply defined.

The crown guard, whose shape is based on the top of a camera viewfinder, is refined and the crown is more pronounced. The power reserve display at 12 o'clock has been removed and the thinner font of the indexes on the bezel also gives the dial more contrast.

The beautiful brown colour of the limited to 2,300 copies anniversary model is inspired by the eye colour of a jaguar.

The specifications are absolutely 2020-worthy: an automatic F6S22 movement with 24 rubies. 21,600 vibrations per hour and 40 hours of power reserve. Water resistance: 5 bar.

King Diver

The King Diver is a reproduction of the original AAA King Diver model from 1969. This watch was a collector's item due to its stylish design and internal rotating bezel previously only found in very pricey Swiss diving watches.

In the anniversary year, the designers of Orient decided to revamp this iconic watch and improve it even further. They kept the original font of the day-display and kept as close as possible to the original logos.

The bracelet is also copied as closely as possible. It is made of solid stainless steel in contrast to the hollow folded metal of the original. The hands are diamond-cut on two faces and the embossed indices are raised for better readability. In short, the King Diver has evolved into a high-quality diving watch, while the design has remained unmistakably Swinging Sixties.

The limited edition of the King Diver, which is limited to 1700 pieces, also has a brown 'Jaguar Focus' dial and excellent specifications: diameter 43.8 mm, 14 mm thick. Automatic Cal. F6922 movement with 22 rubies. 21,600 vibrations / hour and 40 hours power reserve. Water resistance: 20 bar.

The new King Diver diving watches are available in three different colours and with a steel bracelet. The Limited edition comes with a calf leather strap.
