Bering watches' Arctic colours
Posted 30 July 2020 by MiriamWhen most people hear the words North Pole, they think of cold and eternally white ice. But the founders of Danish watch brand Bering saw a richness of colours and textures in this seemingly endless area. They translated these colours into a varied and subtle watch collection in which design and love for the landscape come together.
The Bering Strait is the sea strait located between the Pacific Ocean and the Arctic Ocean. It is also the point where Asia (Siberia) and North America (Alaska) almost touch. The Danish adventurer René Kaerskov named his watch brand after this unique location. After parachuting over the North Pole in 2008, he was from that moment on inspired by the beauty of the 'Arctic'.
Bering watches: genuine Danish design
In the design of Bering watches you recognize the principles of Danish design at its best; A sober but elegant appearance, where the quality is reflected by attention to detail. The finest steel, polished to perfection, light and thin case and sapphire crystal for an unobstructed, scratch-free view of the dial.
But the real sophistication of Bering watches is in their use of color. Inspired by the natural beauty of the Arctic, Bering has created a number of 'colour worlds' that perfectly match the brand's design philosophy.
Arctic Sailing - The dark depths of the icy sea
The Arctic Sailing colour line shows the basis of the Bering style. The combination of black and blue is reminiscent of the Arctic Ocean. An exciting and cool combination.
The many colours of the polar ice in Ocean Blue and Ice Blue
Although we mainly think of the white of ice and snow at the North Pole, it is precisely the different shades of blue that make this area so fascinating. These subtle hues are expressed in Bering's Ocean Blue and Ice Blue worlds.
Red Sailing - Sailing in the Northern Lights
The Northern Lights - Aurora Borealis - is a natural phenomenon that you can only observe in the polar regions. Auroras are the result of perturbations in the magnetosphere caused by solar wind. Small particles settle in the atmosphere and emit a multicoloured light. From bright green to deep red. This colour red and the red of the traditional ships and fishermen's houses inspired Bering to the Red Sailing colour line.
Arctic Nights - chic sunlight and darkness
In the North it never gets completely dark in summer and never completely light in winter. At dusk you see the black of the night framed with a golden glow from the rising or setting sun. This inspired Bering with the Arctic Nights colour line: a chic combination of black and rose gold.
Green lights - "Think green to keep the North Pole white"
While we currently enjoy summer temperatures that rise to over thirty degrees, the polar bears are having less of a good time. Due to global warming, their habitat in the Arctic is shrinking and these beautiful bears are threatened with extinction. That is why Bering released a special green (solar) watch in 2019, part of the proceeds of which will go to the Polar Bears International organization. This Charity collection has now been expanded to include a red watch, with which you can contribute to the preservation of the polar bear.
