The Fossil Earth Day #Tide Limited Edition is made from discarded plastic

Posted 14 April 2022 by Miriam Reading time approximately 2 minutes

Climate change and pollution are serious subjects, but the good news is you can do something about it! Even if only with something as small as a conscious choice when purchasing a new watch. Fossil's exclusive Limited Edition #Tide watches are made entirely from discarded plastic collected from rivers. This way you look super stylish and simultaneously help to clean up the planet. Make a ripple!

Limited Edition Fossil watches on the occasion of Earth Day

Fossil is releasing two limited to 600 (unnumbered) watches for Earth Day 2022. They are exclusive watches that do not come in the regular range and will only be available at selected stores of which Watch.co.uk is one!

They are two Fossil FB-01 solar watches made of Tide Ocean plastic. This material is recycled PET that has been certified and documented and recovered from European waterways, giving it a new lease of life.

Fossil Tide Ocean

Who are Tide Ocean and why do they exist?

The ocean is full of plastic pollution. Solutions are urgently needed, otherwise the ocean will contain more plastic than fish by 2050. Fortunately, there are more and more initiatives to do something about this.

We all know about Boyan Slat's Ocean Clean Up, who want to filter the plastic soup from the ocean. He too recently came to the conclusion that it is better to collect the waste before it flows into the sea at the source: the large ocean bound rivers.

The Swiss Tide Ocean SA is a new international company that also wants to tackle pollution at the source. As an upcycling company, they use an innovative method to convert waste plastic captured from rivers into a new premium raw material. These granules are used in plastics for watches, furniture, electronic devices, auto parts and any other type of hard plastic product. Fossil is one of Tide Ocean's changemaker partners.

Not just responsible, also beautiful!

The Fossil #Tide watch will be released in two versions: the FS5911 and the FS5893.

The FS5911 has a semi-transparent case with a black bezel. The comfortable fabric strap - which is also made from recycled plastic fiber - bears Tide Ocean's motto: 'Make a ripple'. This motto is also reflected on the dial with the structure of a water ripple. The crown and buckle of the watch have an iridescent plating.

The the FS5893 dial also contains the ripple. Furthermore, this watch is made entirely in blue, which makes the luminous hands and hour indices really pop.

Both watches are 10 ATM water resistant, so you can jump into the river with confidence to fish out litter. For example on World Cleanup Day in September. And the battery of the solar timepiece is charged by sunlight and artificial light, so you don't have to replace disposable batteries.

Both #Tide watches come in a specially designed Earth Day Fossil tin.
