G-Shock: celebrating 40 years of relentless toughness and innovation

1983, suddenly there was G-Shock; tough, innovative and stylish. 40-years later, G-shock still has an enduring appeal to watch enthusiasts worldwide. G-Shock's success is partly due to a dedicated and passionate community. From soldiers to adventurers, athletes to fashion fanatics, G-Shock watches have become a symbol of toughness and individuality. For the 40th anniversary, we like to reflect on the iconic G-shock and its groundbreaking watches. From its inspiring beginnings until today, G-shock has managed to push boundaries again and again, proving to be and pioneer in the watch world.

A revolutionary concept

Kikuo Ibe, Casio designer had an important mission: to develop the world's strongest watch. His mission arose after the traditional timepiece (a gift from his late father) broke down. After rigorous testing and many prototypes further, there was finally the groundbreaking first G-shock watch in 1983; the DW-5000C. A revolutionary concept, thanks to (shock-resistant structure), good to survive a 10-metre free fall. Waterproof to 10 bar and a battery life of at least 10 years. These achievements earned G-shock not only a meteoric rise, but more importantly a prominent place in the watch world.

Technological innovations

De zonnecel voorziet het horloge op die manier van stroom. Overbodige energie wordt opgeslagen in de accu en in een donkere omgeving weer vrijgegeven. Denk ook aan modellen waarbij de sensoren de GPS- positie, hoogte en temperatuur nauwkeurig meten. GPS- gegevens worden ook aangevuld met getijdengrafieken en kaarten, speciaal voor surfers, zeilers en andere watersporten. 

40 Years Remastered

Of course, we won't let this anniversary pass you by without highlighting G-shock's four iconic classics. The limited anniversary series: Remaster Black. These limited edition models honour the history of these classics. Through a hot-stamping process, the names and launch year of 49 particularly innovative G-shock models have been immortalised on the black strap. The strap also has a gold IP finish and adds a noble accent to the black anniversary models. The models feature a 40th anniversary logo on the case back, along with a replacement bezel ear the DWE-5657RE and exclusive packaging in the shape of a "G".
