Until the mid-1990s, the average size of a men's watch was 32 to 34 millimetres. This changed when Cartier released a men's watch with a diameter of 38 millimetres, which at the time was seen as a very large watch. Today, this is very different. For example, 38 millimetres is now seen as a 'normal size' for a ladies watch, rather than a very large size watch for men.
